Help migrating some code to chrome extension

I have a simple page I created to use the webHID API in chrome and have it working perfectly but I am having issues getting it to work as a chrome extension. I'm sure it has to do with the async requests needed for some of the API functions.
I'm looking for someone with some solid javascript knowledge and preferably someone with chrome extension experience to help me figure this out.
I want someone to work with me remotely in VSCode to go through the code with me and help get it fixed.
