HTML5 Game developer with expertise in modern JS tools needed to manage an animation software
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
Hi there!
We are a cognitive neuroscience lab based at Dartmouth College (New Hampshire, USA) seeking an expert freelancer to manage and add features to a Javascript-based software that we currently use to (1) create movies with animated shapes that act like they have human agency, and (2) build interactive games based on these animations.
The software is already fully functional, so the current requirements are mainly (i) bug fixes in the algorithm (example task towards the end of this post), (ii) improving and adding new features to make some of the behaviors more human-like, and (iii) making the generation of animations more efficient and deployable on web browsers using packages like jsPsych (we already have a custom jsPsych plugin for this). Please see the attached description and links therein to get an idea of what the software looks like and does.
We plan to hire someone for PART-TIME work (10hrs/week) and expect you to be flexible with timings and availability. The weekly hours can range from 5-20 hours) for a period of 12 months (including an initial 2-month trial period).
Basic requirements: experience building and deploying web apps using modern JS build tools, experience with back-end, simulations and game dev software, experience and commitment to app maintenance, bug fixes and feature additions, should maintain good documentation and communication with a team of researchers.
Project description is in the attached PDF file. You can reach out via DM if you are interested or have questions!
If interested, please specify in your cover letter:
(1) why you think you would be a good fit for this position based on skills, experiences, interest and/or availability.
(2) some of your past work, your role in them, and why that is relevant experience for this position
(3) Your response to the following question:
Observe the animation generated by Psyanim https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-PfH0vsC6Ff5395OBNtWr7RbBDazdKs2/view?usp=sharing
An algorithm tells these two agents represented by triangles to move in a certain way, such that they should interact with each other, appear playful or fighting, and not hit walls etc. A jittery motion can be observed with the red triangle around the 2nd second of the video. Explain how you would approach improving the algorithm to prevent this jittery movement.
If we think you could be a good fit, we will reach back to you within a week. The whole recruitment process could take a week or two, and good communication during this period is critical.
Best,
