Full-Stack/Desktop Developer for Java App Migration to Electron.js

Job ID: 39775946

Budget: $4 – $5 USD

Project Overview :

We are seeking an experienced full-stack or desktop application developer to migrate a legacy Java desktop application (built on NetBeans Platform + JDK 8 + Java3D) to a modern, actively maintained, and community-supported platform — preferably Electron.js.

The current app is a visual editor that:

- Generates and renders interactive 2D layouts and 3D patterns using Lindenmayer systems (L-systems) via mathematical formulas.
- Offers IDE-like features: project management, context-aware menus/windows, asset (image) import, copy/paste, etc.
- Runs offline primarily, with optional online features for future expansion (e.g., pattern marketplace).

We want to rebuild this app using modern web technologies (HTML5, CSS, JS/TS) wrapped in Electron.js, ensuring it remains a desktop-first, cross-platform (Windows/macOS/Linux) application.

Requirements :

- Proven experience developing desktop app with Electron.js.
- Strong knowledge of 2D/3D graphics rendering in web context (Canvas/WebGL).
- Experience with L-systems, procedural generation, or computational geometry is a huge plus.
- Familiarity with Java/NetBeans/Java3D (to understand existing logic) — not required to rewrite in Java, but must understand it.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Bonus: Experience with pattern editors, CAD tools, or creative coding tools.

Note :

The estimated project timeline is 3 to 6 months (flexible based on complexity and your availability). Compensation will be provided on a monthly basis, calculated based on a standard workload of 40 working hours per week.
