Debug JQuery bug for embed in a wordpress website

Thanks for your time. I need help debugging a JQuery console error, "Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined" which suggests the browser doesn't see JQuery. Can post additional debug details on NDA. Small hit and run job here, looking for long term help with Javascript/Chrome/WP debugging. Specifically trying to embed BibBase feed into Wordpress and JQuery is crashing.
