Project Description:
We are looking a Data Visualization Lead who can design and develop interactive, high-performance data visualizations using React and Deck.gl.
This is an ongoing, high-visibility project where you’ll work alongside data scientists, engineers, and product managers to build tools that translate complex datasets (including geospatial and temporal data) into powerful visual insights.
Your Responsibilities:
Lead front-end development for data visualization using React.js and Deck.gl
Translate requirements into responsive, intuitive, and scalable visual components
Optimize rendering performance for large-scale datasets (WebGL, Canvas)
Collaborate with internal teams (PMs, Data Scientists) for UI/UX alignment
Mentor junior developers (if required), and conduct peer code reviews
Ensure cross-device compatibility and accessibility
Maintain clean, modular, and well-documented code
Skills & Experience Required:
8+ years of front-end development experience
2+ years hands-on with React + Deck.gl (Layers, Views, Carto integration)
Strong grasp of JavaScript (ES6+), HTML/CSS, WebGL
Experience with D3.js, Lodash, or similar data libraries
Familiar with GeoJSON, TopoJSON, tilesets, and coordinate systems
Prior experience working with APIs and large-scale datasets
Excellent communication and collaborative mindset
Nice to Have:
Familiarity with Figma, Storybook, or UI design systems
GIS or urban data experience
Experience with Redux, Zustand, Vite, or Webpack
Performance profiling and optimization skills
Experience in agile/fast-paced environments
Project Details:

Hours: Part-time preferred
Time Zone Flexibility: Must be able to overlap partially with US CST
