Cookie adaptations for Chatwoot

Job ID: 34838103

Budget: €250 – €750 EUR

We need adaptations made to open source chat application Chatwoot (https://www.chatwoot.com/ - https://github.com/chatwoot/chatwoot/), specifically to the website chat widget.

When the Javascript code is embedded in a website, a cookie is automatically set upon loading the page, regardless of whether the chat is actually used or not. We would like this behavior to be changed so that no cookie is set initially and both of the following options are available:

1) Upon clicking the button which opens the chat, the widget is opened and displays a customizable privacy notice, as well as a button allowing the cookie to be set, or to proceed without setting a cookie (according to our tests, Chatwoot works if no cookie is set, as long as the user doesn't navigate to a different page). Ideally, this would be implemented such that the text is displayed on the default "welcome" page of the widget.

2) If the user already consented to the use of cookies (e.g. using a cookie popup/banner), the cookie should automatically be set upon clicking the button to open the chat and no choice to continue without cookies should be presented. To that end, a Javascript function could be evaluated to check if consent has already been given.

Upon completion of the project, you are free - and encouraged - to contribute your code to the Chatwoot open source project in your own name.
