Advanced SVG-based Type Design Application
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
About the Project
We’re developing a sophisticated, interactive SVG-based application for type design and manipulation. The codebase is written in pure JavaScript (no frameworks like React or Vue), with extensive use of jQuery, SVG.js, and custom utilities. This is a complex GUI system built with traditional JS patterns, requiring a strong grasp of event handling, DOM manipulation, and coordinate transformations.
What You’ll Be Doing
Debugging and enhancing existing vanilla JS logic for SVG manipulation
Improving and refactoring legacy code (large single-file modules)
Implementing UI interactions without modern frameworks
Working with SVG libraries and internal logic to maintain and evolve a custom GUI system
Collaborating on tool behavior systems, state management, and event-driven architecture
Suggesting meaningful architectural improvements within a non-framework, performance-sensitive app
Requirements
Expert-level JavaScript, especially in Vanilla JS (ES5/ES6+)
Deep experience with jQuery (including advanced event handling)
Strong understanding of SVG manipulation and related libraries (e.g., SVG.js)
Experience working with large, stateful codebases without modern frameworks
Solid grasp of performance optimization and cross-browser compatibility
Comfortable working in a jQuery-heavy codebase
Ability to understand and work with existing code without needing to “rewrite in a framework”
Experience debugging complex interactions involving canvas/SVG and GUI layers
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Bonus Points
Experience with font editors, vector design tools, or similar creative software
Familiarity with mathematical vector operations (Bezier curves, transformations)
Exposure to RBush or spatial indexing algorithms
Experience working with custom event systems or state machines
Please Do Not Apply If
You primarily work with React, Vue, Angular, or similar frameworks and prefer those paradigms
You’re looking to “migrate everything to a modern frontend framework”
You’re uncomfortable working in a jQuery-heavy codebase
You haven’t written pure JS without a build system or framework in the last 2+ years
How to Apply
Please send:
A short paragraph about your relevant experience with vanilla JS and SVG
Code samples or GitHub links that showcase non-framework JavaScript work
Your availability and rates
