Minecraft Velocity Network Expert Needed

Job ID: 40559772

Budget: £10 – £120 GBP

I am seeking an experienced consultant with expertise in Java and networking for a Minecraft Velocity network.

I am looking for someone with proven experience in:

• Java and Minecraft server development.
• Velocity proxy networks.
• DNS, GeoDNS, latency routing, and load balancing.
• Cloudflare DNS and networking.
• Multi-region Minecraft infrastructure.

Current infrastructure:

• 2 Velocity proxies.
• 2 Lobby servers.
• 2 Survival backend servers.
• EU and US regions.

The objective is to configure GeoDNS and load balancing to ensure that players are automatically connected to the geographically closest region, thereby minimizing latency. This process should include the correct integration of Cloudflare, DNS, health checks, failover mechanisms, and accurate routing of traffic to the appropriate backend infrastructure.

I am open to alternatives beyond AWS if another provider or solution is more suitable. The primary objectives are reliability, scalability, and low latency.

Consultation:

• Budget up to $20.
• Around 1 hour.
• I would like to gain a comprehensive understanding of the proposed architecture prior to implementation.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required.
• 4+ years is strongly preferred.
• Please provide proof of previous work, GitHub, portfolio, references, or production projects involving Java, Velocity, DNS, GeoDNS, networking, or similar infrastructure.

Implementation:

If the consultation goes well, I have a separate implementation budget of around $150 to configure and deploy everything correctly.

Infrastructure costs:

Currently, we operate as a small startup Minecraft network across two regions. Our anticipated monthly infrastructure budget for GeoDNS, load balancing, and related networking services is approximately $30 to $40 USD. I welcome recommendations for more effective alternatives within this budget.

What I expect the completed setup to provide:

• Players are routed to the closest region automatically.
• Low latency for both EU and US players.
• Automatic failover if one region becomes unavailable.
• Proper Cloudflare integration.
• Health checks and reliable routing.
• A scalable architecture that can grow as the network expands.
• Documentation so I understand how everything works and can maintain it in the future.

I am not seeking a consultant who relies exclusively on AI for their work. Utilizing AI as a supplementary tool for code review, idea validation, or documentation improvement is acceptable, as I also employ AI for these purposes.

What I need is someone with genuine hands-on experience who understands networking, Java, infrastructure, and can explain why they recommend a particular solution. I work as a Lead Developer in backend engineering, so I value practical knowledge and technical reasoning over AI-generated answers.

Communication:

• English preferred.
• German is also welcome, although I have not spoken German regularly for quite some time.
• Voice communication is required.
• Discord is strongly preferred over Zoom.

When applying, please include:

• Your experience.
• Previous projects or references.
• Your Discord username.
• How would you approach a multi-region Velocity network?
• Whether you have implemented GeoDNS or similar latency-based routing before.

I am seeking a consultant who can both instruct and implement solutions. My goal is to understand the architectural rationale to confidently maintain and expand the infrastructure as the network evolves. If the collaboration is successful, I would be interested in establishing a long-term professional relationship for ongoing infrastructure enhancements.
