Make a suite of old Java Applet games playable, via porting to local Java
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I am looking for someone to do a slightly unusual Java & web related project for me.
AFAIK, it is technically feasible:
There is a suite of card games implemented as Java applets, but now that Java Applet support is totally gone, I would like these games to be ported to be playable in some manner.
(this project is actually for my dear elderly mother, who loves one particular quite of games, and refuses to upgrade her ancient laptop, just because it has an OLD version of Internet Explorer and Java which will still run Applets)
I am by no means a Java expert, so I will need you to tell me a realistic solution here.
The concept is to keep the implementation of the game the same, and just build a supporting framework to make it run & playable.
(Note: are the source of Java applets exposed? will I need to ask the author if they would share the source with me?)
Ideally, we can continue to use the browser as the presentation layer ... but maybe that is not possible anymore, due to deprecation.
If that is not possible: making it run in some windowed framework (SDL? Or whatever the cross-platform equivalent for Java display API's is).

This package contains some JAR's. I cannot even get those to run, but that might be a first
The reward for this project could vary a lot, since I am not sure if it is a little bit of tinkering needed to get an existing piece of software to run in some way, OR if it is some major piece of development, where a drawing API and presentation layer will need to be wrapped.
Due to that unknown: I have this project initially set to a "Simple Project" with a low price range, but we could go beyond that at some fair hourly rate.
OR you can do the technical investigation and give me a higher bid, and be sure to explain the bid in your response.
