Blockchain Certificate Verification system Project

My current project is to create an blockchain based verification system. Currently it is limited to verifying IDs. I am using the Ethereum blockchain for this project. It is simply a local project and is not meant to be deployed online or on test servers. This project is the creation of a decentralised application (dapp).

As of writing this email, smart contracts based on similar works of other developers are being used and are written in solidity. The smart contracts are already written, I just want them to be double checked as they are referenced from online and I have no one to confirm if they are correct. They currently present no bugs in the editor, but I am not sure as they have not been tested.

To make this project personal, I would prefer to be designing the website myself. However, I am not sure how to connect the coded smart contracts to the website. My main issue right now is that I do not know how to build the "website" part of the application. The wallet used in this project is MetaMask. I have already created a local blockchain which provides me with keys in order to fill MetaMask accounts with ETH for testing. I believe Web3 is what I would require to use, but I am not sure how to connect my current work to it. In addition, I would need to connect IPFS for image storage. Upon reading, most people are using this "React.js" for easy web design, but I'm not sure how to integrate that as I did not start the project as a react project. Any web design advice when working with these tools would be appreciated.
