Assistance with music application relevant to small chat app

I am working on a small music application for a chat client that my friends and I can use, while there are plenty out there. I would like one that I can be fully in control of and that can do the specific actions that I am wanting it to be able to do. So what I'm asking for help with is developing the appropriate input and output of the music application
