Native Japanese Speaker for AI Language Project

We are seeking native Japanese speakers with a university degree from a Japanese university for a short-term project with a leading AI lab. These candidates should have excellent written and verbal Japanese skills, intimate familiarity with traditional and contemporary Japanese culture, and experience in language tutoring or teaching in conversational Japanese.

This role begins as early as August 8. We are looking for candidates who can work 20+ hr/week.

Role Responsibilities
Conduct instruction and assessment of conversational Japanese with a focus on cultural appropriateness and fluency.

Provide feedback and guidance on written and spoken Japanese across various contexts.

Assess use of kanji, hiragana, and katakana, and understanding of contemporary Japanese expressions.

Collaborate with different teams to ensure culturally relevant and linguistically accurate assessments.

Stay up to date with current trends in Japanese language, slang, formalities, and cultural nuances.

Evaluate the use of virtual or avatar-based platforms to deliver or evaluate Japanese language content.

Ideal Candidates Should Have:
Native-Level Proficiency: Born and raised in Japan with fluency in both spoken and written Japanese.

Educational Background: Must have completed a university degree in Japan.

Cultural Expertise: Deep understanding of Japanese cultural norms, traditions, and communication etiquette.

Mastery of Writing Systems: Proficient in reading and writing kanji, hiragana, and katakana.

Current Cultural Literacy: Up to date with modern Japanese trends, slang, idioms, and regional expressions.

Nice to Have:

Bilingual Communication Skills: High proficiency in English to explain Japanese concepts clearly and effectively.

Tech-Savviness: Comfortable using virtual platforms and digital tools for assessments or teaching.

Teaching Experience: Prior experience in language tutoring or teaching, especially in conversational Japanese.

Assessment Knowledge: Familiarity with language testing methodologies and evaluation frameworks.

More Details About This Role:
This is a remote and asynchronous role — work on your own schedule.

Expect to contribute at least 20 hours per week.

Initial commitment is 1–2 weeks, with strong potential for extension.

You’ll be working in a structured project environment with clear goals and tools.

This role begins as early as August 8; you must be available to begin in the next few days.
