iPhone App - Display iPhone Notifications from API

I have an iPhone app that is already live in the App Store. The user inputs a tracking number to follow a case. The app pulls data about that case from an API. These parts work already.
The obstacle I have encountered is that the app does not automatically update the case info in the app. Also, I would like the app to send a notification to the user when a case is updated.
