Android App to Track and Categorize UPI Payments from GPay, Paytm, PhonePe
Project Description:
I am looking to develop an Android mobile app that automatically tracks UPI payments made via apps like Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, and other UPI platforms. The app should read notifications of transactions in real-time and prompt the user to categorize each payment.
The app will serve as a personal expense tracker focused on Indian UPI usage.
Key Features Required:
1. Notification Listener Service
Read and extract details (amount, recipient, date/time) from UPI transaction notifications.
Compatible with GPay, Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon Pay, etc.
Run in the background with minimal battery consumption.
2. Real-Time Pop-Up Prompt
As soon as a payment is detected, display a pop-up/modal:
Show: "You paid ₹xxx to ABC via GPay — What was this for?"
Input fields: Category (dropdown), Purpose (text input), Optional notes.
3. Expense Database
Store all transactions locally (SQLite or Room DB).
Fields: Date, Amount, Recipient, Category, Notes, Source App.
Optional cloud sync (Firebase/Google Drive) if feasible.
4. History & Dashboard
Show list of all tracked transactions.
Sort/filter by month, category, app, etc.
Add pie charts or bar graphs showing monthly spending per category.
5. Export/Import Feature
Export history to CSV or PDF.
Import backed-up data from cloud or file.
6. Permissions & Privacy
Ask only required permissions (notification access, storage).
Data should remain on device unless explicitly backed up.
