Japan Crypto Card Payment Test — For Japanese users only!
Budget: €50 – €80 EUR
1. Create an account on the web app.
2. Issue the crypto card.
3. Test funds will be provided.
4. You need to test card payments according to the test plan.
Test environment requirements:
1. Hardware & Devices
Mobile Devices (Must support FeliCa / NFC-F)
iOS Device:
Model: iPhone 12 or later (JP-market model).
OS: Latest iOS version (e.g., iOS 17/18/ or later).
Region Setting: Japan (Settings > General > Language & Region).
2. Connectivity & SIM Cards
SIM Card: Active Japanese SIM card (DoCoMo, au, SoftBank, or MVNO like Rakuten/IIJmio).
Reason: Some wallet provisioning flows (Apple Pay) and App Store downloads may require a local carrier network check or SMS OTP.
3. User Accounts & Identity (KYC)
Test User Profiles (Real Data Required for Production Testing)
Japanese Resident Identity:
Document 1: Driver's License (Unso - most common).
Document 2: My Number Card (Plastic card with photo).
Phone Number: Valid Japanese mobile number (+81-70/80/90) capable of receiving SMS.
App Store / Play Store Accounts
Apple ID: Region set to Japan. (Required to download domestic apps like "Mobile Suica", "Rakuten Pay", or the local version of the issuer app if geo-fenced).
Test use cases:
1. Digital Wallet Provisioning (Apple Pay)
Reference: Section 3.1 & 4.1 (Provisioning)
Context: Since the primary issuance mode is Virtual Card (Section 2.1), successful provisioning to Apple Pay or Google Pay is the prerequisite for any physical world transaction.
Test Steps:
- Generate a Virtual Card via the App.
- Select "Add to Apple Wallet".
- Complete OTP verification (SMS or Email).
- Verify the card appears active in the wallet.
Check: Does the card appear in your Wallet app?
iOS: Open "Wallet" app. Is the card design visible?
Record: Pass / Fail (take a screenshot and upload the it to the report).
Success Criteria: Card is successfully added and ready for usage.
2. In-Store Contactless Payment (Konbini / Supermarket)
Reference: Section 3.3 & 4.2 (Contactless retail JPY)
Context: Convenience stores (7-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart) and Supermarkets (AEON, Ito-Yokado) are high-frequency use cases. Japan uses specific NFC protocols (FeliCa) vs standard NFC (Type A/B).
Test Steps:
- Visit a Konbini (e.g., 7-Eleven).
- Purchase a low-value item (e.g., Water, Onigiri).
- Pay using Apple Pay via NFC.
Crucial Check: Does the terminal recognize it as "Visa Touch" or does it fail if the local "iD/QUICPay" isn't supported?
Check:
- Did the payment go through?
- Did you receive a receipt?
- Scan and upload the receipt to the report.
- Record: Pass / Fail.
- Success Criteria: Transaction approved, receipt printed, push notification received.
3. Public Transport (Transit Gates)
Reference: Section 3.3 & 4.2 (Transit payment in Japan compatibility check)
Option A: Mobile Suica Top-Up (Recommended)
- Open the Wallet App (Apple Wallet ).
- Select your existing Suica or PASMO card (or create a new one).
- Tap "Add Money" (Charge).
- Enter 1,000 JPY.
- Select your Virtual Card as the payment method.
Check:
- Did the payment go through?
- Did the balance update?
- Did you receive a email receipt? Please upload the receipt to the report.
- Record: Pass / Fail.
Option B: Ticket Gate (Only if "Visa Touch" is supported)
- Find a station gate marked with the Visa/Mastercard Contactless symbol (e.g., Fukuoka Subway, Nankai Electric Railway). Most Tokyo Metro gates do NOT support this yet.
- Tap your phone at the gate.
- Check: Did the gate open?
- Record: Pass / Fail.
4. Online E-commerce Transaction (3DS Verified)
Reference: Section 5.1 (Authorization Scenarios - 3DS) & 5.2 (Domestic JP merchant)
Objective: Test 3D Secure (3DS) online authentication.
Test Steps:
- Go to Amazon.co.jp | Books, Apparel, Electronics, Groceries & more (or Rakuten / Yahoo Shopping).
- Add a small item to your cart.
Proceed to Checkout.
- Add a New Payment Method and enter your Virtual Card details (Number, Exp, CVV).
- Click "Place Order".
- Wait: You should see a "Verifying..." screen or be redirected to a 3DS page.
- Action: Enter the OTP sent to your phone/email, or approve in the App if prompted.
Check:
- Was the order confirmed?
- Did you receive a receipt?
- Please upload the receipt to the report.
- Record: Pass / Fail.
5. Domestic ATM Withdrawal (Cash Access)
Objective: Test cash withdrawal and international ATM network.
Find a Seven Bank ATM (inside 7-Eleven, others shops or ATMs is also fine).
Scenario: Use Apple Pay (if supported) OR verify if you need a Physical Card. Note: Most ATMs require a physical card for international withdrawals.
If testing Cardless: Select "Cardless Withdrawal" on the ATM screen -> Scan QR -> Follow App instructions.
If using Physical Card: Insert Card.
- Select language "English".
- Select "Withdrawal".
- Select Account Type: "Current" (or "Credit" if Current fails).
- Enter Amount: 1,000 JPY.
- Important: Try 1,000 JPY first. If fails try 10,000 JPY.
- Take ATM screen picture with the currency conversion.
- Enter your 4-digit PIN.
Check:
- Did the machine dispense cash?
- Did you receive a receipt?
- Please upload the receipt to the report.
- Record: Pass / Fail.
Success Criteria: Cash is dispensed, correct FX rate applied (if base currency is not JPY), and transaction is recorded.
