Job ID: 38753312

Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD

Project Brief: HealthyChoices iOS App Development

Objective:
To create an iOS application, HealthyChoices, that enables users in the USA to make healthier grocery shopping decisions by scanning food products, analyzing ingredients, and providing information on chemical-free options.

Scope of Work

The developer will be responsible for building a fully functional iOS app that includes barcode scanning, a product database integration, health scoring, alternative suggestions, and a clean, intuitive user interface. This project is for an iOS-only app, and it should be optimized for iPhones.

Core Features

1. Barcode Scanning
• Objective: Allow users to scan barcodes to retrieve product information.
• Requirements: Integrate a barcode scanning library (such as AVFoundation).
• Functionality: Upon scanning, the app should use the barcode to look up product information from the database.

2. Product Information Retrieval
• Objective: Pull product data (nutritional info, ingredients, etc.) from reliable sources.
• Data Sources: Use available public APIs like:
• Open Food Facts API: For an extensive product database.
• Nutritionix API: For additional nutritional data.
• USDA FoodData Central API: For comprehensive food details.
• Functionality: Retrieve and display nutritional details, ingredient lists, and chemical information for each product.

3. Health Scoring Algorithm
• Objective: Provide a health score based on key factors, including nutritional value, presence of additives, and organic certification.
• Requirements: Implement a scoring system to assess products based on:
• Nutritional Value (e.g., calories, sugars, sodium).
• Additives (highlight harmful chemicals/additives).
• Organic Status (assign higher scores for organic products).
• Functionality: Display the score prominently, explaining each component of the score.

4. Alternative Product Suggestions
• Objective: Recommend healthier or chemical-free alternatives within the same category.
• Requirements: Use a content-based filtering logic that matches products by category and ranks by health score.
• Functionality: Offer healthier alternatives if the scanned product does not meet certain criteria

5. User Profile and Preferences
• Objective: Allow users to create profiles, save their favorite products, and customize dietary preferences (e.g., organic only, chemical-free).
• Functionality: Users should be able to register an account, view saved products, and set personal health goals or preferences.

6. User Interface (UI)
• Design Requirements: Clean, user-friendly layout with intuitive navigation. Prioritize ease of use and accessibility.
• Visual Indicators: Use colors, icons, or symbols to visually convey health scores (e.g., green for healthy, red for caution).
• User Testing: Design should be user-tested to confirm clarity and ease of use.

Technical Requirements

1. Development Language: Swift, using Xcode as the development environment.

2. APIs Integration:
• Open Food Facts API, Nutritionix API, and USDA FoodData Central API for data retrieval.
• Custom API development may be necessary for managing unique app-specific data and product scoring.

3. Data Storage:
• Use a database (such as Firebase or Core Data) to store user information, scanned products, and personalized preferences.

4. Backend Services:
• Set up cloud services (AWS or Firebase) to handle user profiles, favorites, and product data efficiently.
5. Security and Compliance:
• Ensure secure data handling, especially for user data (implement encryption in transit and at rest).
• Comply with data privacy regulations relevant to the US (e.g., CCPA compliance).
6. Testing and QA:
• Regular testing is required to verify the functionality and usability of the app across different iOS devices.

Deliverables

1. HealthyChoices iOS App: Fully functioning, tested app ready for submission to the Apple App Store.
2. Documentation:
• Code documentation to explain key parts of the app, especially around custom algorithms or integrations.
• Setup and deployment instructions.
3. Source Code: All source code for the project.

4. Maintenance Plan (optional): If you offer maintenance, outline any ongoing support or updates post-launch.

Additional Notes

• User Data Privacy: The app should respect user privacy, allowing users to opt-out of data collection and providing transparency around how their data is used.
• Data Completeness: If the API does not have certain products, include a system that allows users to manually add or update product data (optional).

The app should be available on iOS devices. The UI should follow a minimalist and clean design, focusing on simplicity and user-friendliness.
