Indigenous Nonprofit Newsletter & Booklet Writer

Description:
We’re seeking a skilled and thoughtful writer to help craft meaningful content for our nonprofit organization that supports Indigenous families, affordable housing, and community well-being in Alberta.

You’ll help update our annual booklet and contribute to our Winter quarterly newsletter, creating a mix of articles, stories, interviews, and community profiles. The tone should be engaging, respectful, and conversational, with a strong focus on highlighting cultural heritage, community initiatives, and success stories.

Key Responsibilities:
- Write clear, engaging articles for newsletters and multi-page print/digital booklets
- Develop human-centered stories that reflect Indigenous voices and lived experiences
- Conduct interviews and write community profiles
- Collaborate with a designer to align content with layout and illustrations
- Help summarize updates and reports into accessible content

Requirements:
- Experience writing for nonprofits, especially in housing, health, or Indigenous community support
- Strong storytelling and interviewing skills
- Ability to adapt tone to be culturally respectful, community-oriented, and conversational
- Familiarity with Indigenous cultures and traditions in Canada (especially Alberta)
- Ability to attend occasional online meetings during Mountain Time (Calgary) business hours

Project Scope:
This is a project-based role to:
- Update last year’s community booklet with new content
- Prepare articles for the upcoming Winter newsletter
- Weekly hours will vary depending on content availability and deadlines
