Film & TV Subtitle Translation
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
I have a slate of movies and TV episodes that need accurate, well-timed subtitle translations. The original captions are already scripted in the source language; what I need is a polished target-language version that keeps dialogue timing, tone, and on-screen reading speed intact.
Scope
• Translate supplied subtitle (.srt) files line-by-line.
• Retain existing timecodes and character limits so the flow matches each scene.
• Flag on-screen text, songs, or puns that may need cultural adaptation so we can discuss alternatives.
Deliverables
1. Finalised subtitle file for each video in the same format provided (.srt, .vtt, etc.).
2. A brief change log noting any timing adjustments or cultural localisation choices.
Acceptance Criteria
• No overshooting line lengths (max 42 characters per line, two lines per cue).
• Reading speed stays under 17 cps for normal dialogue.
• Zero missing cues, overlaps, or encoding errors when re-imported into industry tools such as Aegisub or Subtitle Edit.
To be considered, please send a detailed project proposal explaining your approach, any relevant toolchain you prefer (Aegisub, Subtitle Edit, Final Sub, etc.), anticipated turnaround per hour of video, and a sample of previous subtitle work if available.
