What is this link? What dioes it do?

Hi,
I am looking for a house and I requested to see one, the real estate agent sent me an email with a link to the property but it was not a link to the property, it was a mail.google.com link. I clicked the link without reading it and then was taken to gmail.com. Gmail is my main email account so I am worried about what the link does. Can someone tell me?
I asked the real estate agent what the link was but he just replied with a link to the property and no explanation.
