Project Description:
Our project aims to apply Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) to improve the quality and safety of transportation in cities. The main goal is to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, which are two of the most critical challenges in urban areas today.
The system we designed works by sensing, communicating, analyzing, and controlling traffic conditions in real time. It uses a network of sensors installed on the roads to monitor vehicle density, pollution levels, and emergency situations. These sensors continuously send data to a central control unit. Using AI and machine learning algorithms, the system analyzes the data and makes intelligent decisions to manage traffic efficiently.
One of the main features of our project is the concept of the “green corridor.” This is a smart lane dedicated to emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks. When there is no emergency, the system can automatically open the lane to reduce traffic congestion. When an emergency vehicle approaches, it gives it immediate priority. This feature improves response time for emergencies and ensures better traffic flow overall.
The project prototype includes both hardware and software components. Hardware such as sensors and microcontrollers collect and transmit data, while the software processes the information and controls the system’s behavior. The design also focuses on response time, accuracy, and reliability — ensuring the system can react quickly to changing conditions.
By implementing this system, we aim to achieve measurable improvements in:
Travel time and waiting time at intersections.
Fuel consumption and pollution levels.
Traffic flow efficiency and road safety.
Emergency vehicle priority and accident reduction.
