small house interior stairs
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
I have an old brick home that needs to have the existing stairs removed and rebuilt going the opposite way ("flipped") The existing stairs are too narrow for the building codes. The first sets go from the basement which has a 7 foot ceiling. The first to second floor stairs has a 10 foot ceiling.
The one side of the steps are against the house brick wall and the other side is framed into the second floor ceiling joists. It is necessary for the staircase to be enclosed so the one side of the stairs can support the floor joists.
I want the top three stairs going to the second floor to wind to the left 90 degrees.
The stairs from the first floor to the basement to be straight. The local code says the stairs need to be 36" wide and have three stringers.
This old turn of the century brick home is in Saint Louis Missouri and is a total rehab project. If there is some interest I can send some photos of the existing stairs or any measurements that are needed. Any plans are drawings need to be submitted to the city for a building permit.
