Install Dual Alternators On Mercruisers

Job ID: 40579212

Budget: £20 – £250 GBP

Two 2.8 L Cummins-Mercruiser diesel engines on my boat at MDL Marina, Bray (Maidenhead, Berkshire) each need each alternator bolted on and wired in. The new alternators are already on board, boxed, and match the factory specs, so no parts hunting is required. The stock mounting points should be all that’s necessary—no custom brackets or machining expected—and both engines are running smoothly with no underlying issues to resolve first.

What I need from you is straightforward:

• Remove existing alternators any covers or belts as needed, fit the new alternator on each engine using the existing hardware, re-tension the belts, and confirm proper alignment.
• Integrate the extra charge circuit cleanly into the current 12 V system, test output under load, and verify that both alternators and batteries are charging as expected at idle and cruising RPM.
• Leave the engine bays tidy and provide a brief hand-over note of the work done plus any observations.

Please bring the necessary marine-grade tools and testers; shore power and basic workshop facilities are available on the pontoon. The job can be done alongside the berth, so no haul-out is needed. Let me know your earliest availability and how long you anticipate the installation and testing will take.
