Safety Equipment Design Specialist
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
Project Description – EdgeStop (Pre-NDA Phase)
I am seeking a skilled industrial/product designer to assist with the Phase 1 concept refinement and manufacturability review of a construction safety product.
Project Overview:
EdgeStop is a modular, polymer-based construction safety system designed to:
Provide positive wheel stopping for wheeled equipment (e.g., scissor lifts)
Define and protect slab edges on active job sites
Integrate with removable hole covers to reduce fall and wheel-off risks
Be reusable, field-adjustable, and suited for construction environments
Design Intent (High-Level):
Primary material: Polymer (HDPE, Nylon, or similar)
Energy absorption: Closed-cell foam (conceptual at this stage)
Structural reinforcement: Internal polymer ribbing (details to be developed post-NDA)
Key Functional Requirements:
Must physically stop wheeled equipment in a controlled manner
Must attach or pressure-fit to slab edges without slab penetrations
Must interface with removable hole covers
Must be lightweight, durable, and serviceable in the field
Phase 1 Deliverables Expected:
Concept refinement and design direction
Preliminary CAD models (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or STEP)
Manufacturability review (materials, cost drivers, fabrication approach)
Design recommendations suitable for first-round prototyping
Constraints & Standards:
No sharp edges
General consideration of OSHA / ANSI safety principles
Designed for construction jobsite abuse and reuse
Timeline:
Initial design concepts: approximately 2–4 weeks
Additional phases to be defined after Phase 1 review
IP & Communication:
Certain internal mechanisms, attachment methods, and structural details are intentionally omitted at this stage
Detailed technical information, sketches, and 3-D concepts will be shared after execution of a mutual NDA
Weekly check-ins during active phases
Design iterations reviewed via PDFs and shared 3-D files
Please include a portfolio or examples of relevant industrial or construction-related product work. Designers are encouraged to ask clarifying questions prior to submitting a quote. This is Phase 1 of a larger product development effort. Additional phases will follow after concept selection and IP milestones.
