Industrial Designer for Sports Tech Prototype
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
We are seeking an Industrial Designer to join the Gen1 Prototype team for GoalMate, responsible for the waterproof enclosure and goal mounting system. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Electronic Engineer, Systems Architect, Health & Safety consultant, and Software Engineer to ensure the prototype is safe, durable, and pilot-ready.

Deliverable 1 – Gen1 Prototype (PCB + Firmware)
• PM: Approves design, manages timeline & budget.
• Electronic Engineer: Designs PCB, writes firmware, assembles prototype (£720).
• Systems Architect: Reviews architecture, ensures compliance with UK standards.
• Industrial Designer (This Role): Designs and specifies the waterproof enclosure (IP54+) and secure mounting system for football goalposts (5-, 7-, 9-, 11-a-side). Provides CAD models and fit requirements.
• Health & Safety: Reviews prototype for basic safety risks.
• Software Engineer: Assists with BLE/data logging integration.

Scope of Work (ID Role)
• Design a durable, waterproof enclosure (IP54 minimum) to protect electronics (PCB, rechargeable battery, sensors, audio).
• Develop a goalpost mounting system that is:
• Safe for players (rounded edges, no sharp projections).
• Weatherproof and resistant to tampering/theft (tool-required removal).
• Compatible with multiple pitch sizes.
• Produce CAD files (STL/STEP), exploded views, and assembly instructions.
• Recommend materials suitable for outdoor, all-weather use.
• Ensure enclosure and mounting design align with FA safety standards.

• Material & assembly report (with waterproofing strategy: seals, gaskets, etc.).

• Proven experience in industrial/product design for outdoor or sports equipment.
• Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent).
• Knowledge of IP-rated waterproofing techniques.
• Awareness of safety compliance and durability testing for outdoor products.
