Foot-Operated Toilet Lid Design -- 2
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m developing a premium, manual (non-electronic) foot-operated toilet lid lifter.
This is NOT the cheap velcro version sold online.
I already have a visual 3D render of the product (attached) and now need a skilled mechanical engineer to turn it into a fully functional, manufacturable design + prototype.
Your job:
Take the visual concept → engineer the REAL mechanics → deliver a working prototype.
⸻
What I Already Have
• Aesthetic 3D render (the LOOK of the product)
• Clear sketches + dimensions
• Full feature list and functional requirements
• Known torque expectations (8–12 N·m at hinge)
• Universal mounting concept
⸻
What I Need From You
1. Functional Mechanical CAD
Create a REAL, working mechanical design including:
• Universal lid clamp
• Foot pedal mechanism
• Torsion/extension spring integration
• Low-profile lifting arm
• Linkage system
• Base housing
• Material recommendations
• Tolerances for manufacturability
Deliverables:
• STEP + STL files
• Assembly + exploded view
• Motion simulation (pedal → arm → lid)
⸻
2. Engineering Requirements
You will ensure the product:
• Lifts ANY toilet lid (including soft-close)
• Delivers 8–12 N·m torque at hinge
• Uses mechanical advantage (linkage + spring)
• Can be 3D printed for prototype
• Has manufacturable geometry for injection molding later
• Fits multiple toilet shapes (universal mounting)
⸻
3. Prototype Development
Either:
• Print + assemble the prototype yourself OR
• Provide me the files and instructions to print locally
Prototype must:
• Function correctly
• Demonstrate full open/close cycle
• Lift a real toilet lid
• Show no major interference
• Be adjustable for multiple lids
⸻
Skills Required
• Mechanical engineering
• Product design
• Spring mechanism design
• Linkage systems
• CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, etc.)
• Experience with functional prototypes
• Understanding of manufacturability for plastic parts
Bonus:
• Experience with bathroom hardware products
⸻
Please Include in Your Proposal
1. Past similar mechanical projects
2. Your preferred CAD platform
3. Whether you can handle printing the prototype
4. Estimated time to complete
5. Total project cost (design + prototype)
6. Any suggestions for mechanical improvements
⸻
Files Included
• 3D concept render
• Sketch with dimensions
• Product notes & required functionality
(Uploading the files here on Upwork)
⸻
Summary
This is a simple mechanical product but must be:
• Reliable
• Universal
• Easy to manufacture
• Clean and modern in design
I’m looking for someone who can bring this from concept → real working prototype.
