Print Production Expert for Book Publication

Job ID: 39386102

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented print production consultant to assist in preparing multiple book files (PDF and Adobe InDesign/Book formats) for final print publication. These are educational and narrative books in both English and Indigenous languages. The job entails addressing specific feedback from our printer to ensure files meet professional print standards.

Scope of Work:
The consultant will need to:

Adjust Trim Sizes and Confirm Final Dimensions

Review and correct inconsistencies between text block size and final trim size for covers and interiors.

Confirm correct final sizes for each title (in millimeters) based on printer notes.

Color Space & Image Corrections

Convert all RGB images to CMYK.

Ensure all black text is properly set as 1C black, not 4C black.

Identify and adjust any images currently in 4C black to avoid registration issues.

Where possible, optimize image resolution (most are under 300 DPI); we understand some images cannot be replaced.

Bleed and Margin Setup

Add bleed to all pages and images where missing.

Add visible bleed and margin lines for print setup.

Ensure backgrounds or design elements that touch trim edges extend fully to bleed.

Pagination and Folio Alignment

Correct folio (page number) placements so they are consistent (e.g., not spine-side on verso pages).

Verify and correct any pagination inconsistencies.

Cover Adjustments

Convert cover images to 300 DPI CMYK format.

Ensure black elements on the cover are correctly set as 1C black.

Center spine text and ensure it is editable (not flattened into an image).

Improve barcode resolution and ensure it is sharp and in 1C black where possible.

Align cover design elements (e.g., title bars) fully to the spine as needed.

Deliverables:
Finalized print-ready PDF files (interior and cover) for each title, with proper bleed, trim, and margins.

Source InDesign files (packaged) with fonts, links, and all assets.

A short summary document confirming what issues were corrected and what limitations (e.g., image DPI) were accepted.

Requirements:
Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Acrobat, and Photoshop

Solid understanding of print publishing standards (color profiles, resolution, bleed, trim, pagination)

Experience working with book-length documents for professional printing

Attention to detail and ability to follow technical printer specifications
