Format Nonfiction Book & Paperback

Job ID: 39808418

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

I have a 50,000-word nonfiction manuscript that is ready for its final polish. What I need now is clean, professional interior formatting that will look just as good on an e-reader as it does in print.

Scope
• Distributors: the files must pass validation for Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, Apple Books, and Barnes & Noble Press.
• File types: .kpf, .epub, .mobi, and a print-ready PDF for paperback (bleed, margins, trim size, and embedded fonts all squared away).
• Front matter: I’m after a custom approach rather than the standard cookie-cutter sequence, so be prepared to arrange title, copyright, dedication, and any other opener creatively while staying compliant with distributor guidelines.
• Back matter: author bio, acknowledgments, references, and a calls-to-action section for my mailing list.
• Illustrations: about 40 images with captions placed inline with the text, anchored so they don’t drift on different devices.
• Consistency: heading hierarchy, body fonts, drop caps (where appropriate) and widow-orphan control should all be handled with care.

Deliverables
1. Validated .kpf ready to upload to KDP.
2. .epub that passes both Apple Books and EPUB-Check.
3. Legacy .mobi for readers who still need it.
4. High-resolution PDF laid out for print (correct trim size, bleeds, and spine width).
5. A brief change log and any source files (InDesign package, Vellum project, or similar) so I can update the book later.

Acceptance Criteria
• No formatting errors flagged during KDP, Apple Books, or B&N pre-flight.
• Images remain crisp and captioned correctly on responsive screens and in print proofs.
• All front and back matter appears in the agreed-upon order.
• Pagination, table of contents links, and internal hyperlinks function flawlessly.

If you regularly work with tools such as Adobe InDesign, Kindle Create, Vellum, or Sigil and have a sharp eye for typography, let’s talk. I’m ready to send the manuscript and images as soon as we agree on the workflow and timeline.
