Definition of living
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Daily living needs
➔ FUNCTION:
◆ What daily activities are to be accommodated and at what times?
◆ What are the necessary adjacencies or desired segregation of activities
and the spaces they need?
◆ What are the possible multi-uses of spaces?
➔ COMMUNITY:
◆ How does the living unit support social/communal interactions?
◆ What arrangement of spaces facilitates the desired communal
interactions, varying over time and with different people/non-people?
◆ How does the living unit optimally connect to the external world?
➔ PROGRAM:
◆ What is the optimal space sizing (length, breadth, height)?
◆ What is the optimal connection/arrangement of spaces internally and
relating to the external world?
◆ What is the optimal multi-use of space/s?
The goals are:
1) To analyze, optimize and develop an understanding of individual user needs
DELIVERABLE:
(for a living unit) within defined space/s, and
2) To use visual representation to generate a cohesive narrative that
communicates, with diagrams, text and images, a proposed spatial definition and arrangement which optimally accommodates and enhances those (daily) needs.
Using InDesign, prepare a visual narrative of 3 to 5 slides which communicates your answer to the question, “What is an optimal living unit (for you)?” Fill your artboards with precedent images, diagrams, sketches, and text, where necessary.
It could look like this:
