Image Color Reduction for Paint-by-Number
Budget: $20 – $100 CAD
I need an illustration's colors reduced to 36-48, maintaining similar colors as the original. This is to prepare the image for a paint by number creation site.
Ideal Skills:
- Proficient in image editing software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Experienced in color theory and palette management
- Attention to detail to preserve image quality and color relationships
It was a paint by numbers kit from the 1970s. When my dad was a young teen, he purchased the kit and painted it (boobs first...), before later finishing the rest. The painting hung above my grandmother's bed for decades until recently. She passed away a few years ago, and we lost my grandfather to dementia not long after. Unfortunately while he was rapidly declining and before he got into a care home, for reasons we'll never know, he decided to get rid of it. We've since searched the house high and low and assume he must have thrown the long cherished painting into the trash.
We were pretty upset about it, myself especially, since I hoped to one day have the painting. After some days of searching online, I finally found the kit catalogued on the PaintByNumberMuseum (https://www.paintbynumbermuseum.com/painting/32ff2), and from there was able to find a few photos of the same painting online.
I can't find the painting to purchase or any copies of the kit, so my last option is submitting the image to a custom paint by number creation site and painting a replica to be able to gift it to my dad. The pictures I found aren't great, but I'm hoping someone would be able to flatten some of the colours so it can be translated to a paint by number. I've tried myself with automated tools, but unfortunately the textures on the canvas gives an illusion of many shades and thus creates too many separate colours to work well. It always ends up removing the yellows and pinks from the brush, headband and sash. :(
