on the brink poster
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
What we would like to do is create a partially or completely hand-drawn poster instead of using real-life images, especially pictures of Kennedy and Khrushchev for our film: On the Brink – Miscalculation: Kennedy and Khrushchev. We would like to use the style of 1960s propaganda posters. I have added 6 examples of posters (attached) for you to look at.
I had someone try and do this poster but they just couldn’t do the style I wanted. They kept going for more of a computer-animated feeling. I want more of vintage propaganda artistic hand-drawn style that looks like it is from a different time period – the 1960s or earlier.
Then we tried to have someone illustrate JFK (K) and Khrushchev (Kh). He did alright but just didn’t have the skills we are looking for. We also had him doing them squaring off. We still want one version with them squaring off but we would also like a version where they are walking side by side with their backs to us. I will attach both versions of these posters.
Things to consider:
1. The figures of Kennedy and Khrushchev (K&Kh). They should be the most prominent part of the poster and hand-drawn in black and white. We prefer the style of poster #3 (see below) although poster 4 is pretty cool too. This is going to be up to the artist.
2. First version: K&Kh should be looking at each other as if they were facing off in a boxing match. We want to see the signature lanky, laid-back posture of JFK possibly leaning over Khrushchev with hands in pockets (the cool and collected JFK) as if he was patiently listening to Khrushchev who is standing next to him. We don’t want the image of the two of them to be overly serious. Of course, the image of Khrushchev is belligerent, but the image of Kennedy can be more laid back and whimsical. Look at the woman in poster #6. Notice her laid back whimsical attitude? I am looking for something like this from Kennedy.
Kind of like the picture attached. And here is another picture of what I think his body should kind of look like attached as well.
Depending on what picture you use as an example to draw an illustration, you may need to switch Kennedy and Khrushchev so Kennedy is on the left and Khrushchev on the right. It’s up to you. Please let me know if you also want me to send you some pictures of Khrushchev.
3. Second Version: This should be silhouettes of K&Kh walking away from the viewer. The silhouettes should show K much taller than Kh and lanky with one hand in his pocket. If Kennedy is on the right side then his right hand should be in his pocket and his left hand should be right next to Kh’s hand who is walking on K’s left side – almost as if they were about to hold hands. The sentiment is that they are reluctant friends. They have such a different way of looking at the world, but deep down they have more in common and this is what allows them to work together behind the scenes to avoid thermonuclear war and the destruction of the planet in 1962.
Also, when you finish the sketches of K&K, please send just the images of K&K as I would like to use this for purposes other than the poster.
