Whimsical Watercolor Illustrations for Children's Book
Budget: $30 – $250 AUD
I'm seeking a talented illustrator to bring my children's book, I don't want to turn!, to life with whimsical watercolor art. The focus will be primarily on character-driven illustrations, so a knack for creating engaging and expressive characters is essential.
The book illustrates the journey a mother takes to encourage her breech baby Rhys to turn in the womb so he can be born safely head first. But baby has other ideas! It is designed to be read to the baby itself so they can learn in a fun illustrative way the story of their birth.
The book will be approx. 20 pages. The illustrations don't have to be full page, they can be 1/4 - 1/2 page on a white background to illustrate the scene. Three characters required, baby Rhys, Mum Carlie and Dad Dan with some miscellaneous health professional characters like chiropractors, doctors, acupuncturist, etc.
Example text:
When you were a little baby growing in Mums womb,
It was dark and cosy with not that much room.
You were warm and snug all bundled up tight,
In a breech position with your head upright.
You see babies are meant to be positioned head down,
In order to come into the world safe and sound.
Mum tried everything to get you to spin,
So you could be born naturally, the ideal way to begin.
She went to the chiropractor to straighten out her hips,
She did upside down stretches to get you to twist.
She bounced and rocked on a big gym ball,
She had Dad hold a smoldering stick to her toe of mugwort.....
Key Responsibilities:
- Illustrate character-focused scenes in a whimsical, watercolor style
- Typeset the book in an appealing layout
Ideal Skills:
- Proficiency in creating whimsical, character-focused illustrations
- Experience with watercolor illustrations
- Strong typesetting skills
- Understanding of children's book illustration
