MTG Card Deck Box Visual Style & Surface Pattern Design for Commander Players

Project Overview:
We are looking for a talented illustrator with experience in fantasy-themed visual design to create a unique exterior design (surface artwork and color scheme) for our premium MTG card deck box product. This design will be printed directly onto the surface of the box (similar to what you’d see on Magic: The Gathering-themed accessories) and must appeal to MTG Commander/EDH players who value functionality, style, and fandom aesthetics.
About the Product:
Our product is a premium-quality MTG Commander deck box with the following features:
Holds over 236 double-sleeved cards, or 540 unsleeved cards.
Made with waterproof leather and soft inner lining for protection.
Includes: 2 commander card display windows, 2 transparent 35PT card holders, a dice box, and 6 dividers.
Fits standard-size trading cards (Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon, etc.).
Features a patented handle design and opens at a 45-degree angle for easy access.
What We Need from You:
Visual Concept + Final Illustration that will be printed onto the surface of the deck box.
Design must be original, fantasy-themed, and tailored for TCG/MTG Commander players.
Incorporate classic MTG elements or color themes (WUBRG: White, Blue, Black, Red, Green).
Designs should avoid character artwork (no copyright issues), but can include symbols, icons, sigils, magical textures, or battle-worn effects.
Deliverables in high-res print-ready formats (TIFF, PSD, or vector).
Inspiration Examples:
Competitor products with rich color blocking and magical textures
MTG card backs, mana symbols, elemental motifs
Fantasy battle gear aesthetics, arcane or tribal engravings
Who You Are:
Experienced illustrator with a portfolio in fantasy or gaming art
Familiar with Magic: The Gathering or trading card gaming culture
Able to communicate clearly and revise based on feedback
Bonus Points If:
You’ve designed for physical products before (especially packaging or accessories)
You understand MTG color pie symbolism and visual themes
Timeline:
We aim to finalize the visual design within 2–3 weeks after hiring.
