Illustrator and/or 3D artist to design a Realistic Book Cover Design
Budget: $15 – $25 AUD
In this project, I am seeking a skilled visual artist and/or 3D designer who has an eye for creating a good book cover design.
I have kind of started this process off in a vector illustration program (file will be supplied) of roughly how the book cover might look. However, I am open to alternative designs if you believe it will look better and you can give your reasons for making those changes (I always enjoy listening to your advice).
In its present state, the front of the book cover shows from the bottom towards the top in the middle a progression of different objects starting from the simplest patented device from Thomas Townsend Brown, and moving upwards with slight changes until we reach the pinnacle of the final design, which represents the electromagnetic flying vehicle (essentially a glowing flying oblate spheroid).
Towards the bottom and on either side of this, I need your help to create the faces and perhaps the neck and upper torso (if you think it is necessary) of two individuals facing each other (not directly in profile but turned slightly towards the reader) and looking up at the final design. The glows of each object in the middle may assist in lighting up the faces a little, which is why I have allowed a 3D artist to have a go at this project in creating this effect, hopefully in a realistic way, adjusting the brightness of the glow as needed to get enough details of the individuals in the scene.
The person on the right is to look like Thomas Townsend Brown (I will supply numerous photographs to show what he looked like, although you can probably search online for these if you like), and the person on the left is a distinctly alien humanoid with larger eyes, almost no nose, and a slit for a mouth.
The background I have left as kind of the start of a sunrise. Sun not visible, but the sky is turning from violet to progressively black at the top. Perhaps you can make this more realistic? At any rate, I haven't put any stars into it as yet (mainly in the black area). But this is just a suggested design. Perhaps you might think of something different?
The back of the book cover has some basic blurb. And for a little more interest, I have an artist impression of a spherical glowing flying vehicle from a UFO case in Japan with portholes around the rim (which I consider to be the next level above the final design of the object on the front page). Back of the book cover is currently in black.
Your tasks are as follows:
1. Draw and paint as realistically as possible the two individuals I have described above. You have flexibility in the alien look, but I can supply you with artist impressions of various aliens seen by UFO witnesses to give you some inspiration if you need it.
2. Add stars, and perhaps a bit of the Milky Way in one corner at the top, just to give it a bit more of a realistic look.
3. I am toying with the idea of whether the horizon should not be flat and the ground black as it is at the moment, or whether it should have a straight highway in the middle going off into the distance, and something on the sides like some trees (which might be mostly black). But that could over complicate the design. If you want to play around with this idea and show a quick sketch of what might work for this book cover, I am all for it.
4. Book title is not too creative at this stage. I am calling it "The Electromagnetic Flying Vehicle: Understanding the Technology Behind Genuine UFO Sightings". Perhaps you can brainstorm some alternative titles that are more catchy and might be a head turner. Not sure, but this is an optional extra, and only if you have time and don't mind making some suggestions.
If you intend to use a 3D modelling package to design the individuals (and perhaps the book cover), I would like to open it in Blender 3D or have some ability to easily convert and open in this open source software and still look the same.
Finally, before I can award someone to do this work, I will need to see examples of your illustration or 3D modelling skills. In particular, your samples should show at least a person or people, as this will tell me how likely you will succeed in this project (and how well illustrated the faces look).
Please note that whoever is successful in bidding for this project and achieves a great result in the book cover design will have his/her name credited in the book (and, if requested, receive a free copy if you want it).
