Illustrator Needed — Monthly Paint by Numbers Artwork Series (Ongoing)

About the Project:
Our Café is a specialty book café in Jumeirah, Dubai, launching a monthly Paint by Numbers canvas series for our guests. We are looking for a talented illustrator to create the artwork for these kits on an ongoing monthly basis.
What we need:
Each month, you will create 6 original illustrations following a set theme. The artwork must be designed specifically for Paint by Numbers production — meaning clean, clearly defined colour regions with minimal blending, bold outlines, and a style that is both beautiful and paintable.
Style reference:
Flat, contemporary illustration with clear colour blocking — similar in feel to modern PBN sets (reference: davincified.com). Think editorial, calm, and considered — not cartoonish. Each piece should feel complete and satisfying as a standalone artwork even before it is painted.
Specifications:
- Canvas size: A5 (148 × 210 mm)
- File format: High-resolution print-ready files (minimum 300 DPI), supplied as layered PSD or AI, plus exported PNG/PDF
- Colour palette: Agreed per theme — typically 15–25 distinct colours per illustration
- Style: Flat illustration, minimal gradients, object/landscape/nature focused. No human faces. No statues. Animals, if included, must have blank or averted faces
- Cultural sensitivity: All artwork must be culturally appropriate and family-friendly
Content guidelines:
- Themes will be provided by our Café in advance each month
- First theme: Flame Tree Season — Dubai's iconic streets lined with red flamboyant trees in full bloom; evocative, warm, and locally resonant
- Subsequent themes will cover a mix of UAE heritage, nature, café culture, botanicals, and global seasonal moments
Rights & ownership:
- All artwork created under this agreement becomes the exclusive intellectual property of our Café upon payment. You may not use, reproduce, display, or share the artwork in any portfolio, social media, or other public-facing context without our written permission.
Deliverables per month:
- 6 final print-ready illustrations
- Layered source files
- A brief color key for each illustration (colors named and numbered)
Ideal candidate:
- Strong portfolio in flat/editorial illustration
- Experience with print production preferred
- Reliable, communicative, and able to meet monthly deadlines
- Familiarity with Paint by Numbers artwork is a bonus, not a requirement
- Familiarity with UAE culture and history
Engagement: Ongoing monthly contract, starting with a paid trial of one theme (6 illustrations). Rate to be quoted per illustration or per monthly set.
