The scene is framed deep, deep beneath the surface of our own world, six-thousand years ago in a fictional historic past and features dramatic contrasts between night-dark shadows and bright blue and white light.
Central Figures:
Nine characters stand in an open air, medium sized, water-tight monolithic stone boat with a low-level deckhouse (fore, aft or mid-ship) with at least one open low door and stone steps leading down. A water-tight lower-level provides the necessary displacement for buoyancy, which does not need to be depicted. There are several stone oars but no masts or sails.
The boat floats diagonally from lower right to upper left (from a viewer’s perspective) down a large, rough, underground river. The river is so large, it could be mistaken for a lake or the edge of an underground sea.
Frame:
Just as with the curvature of the Earth above, so to we view the scene with the curvature of Under-earth clearly seen by the curving of the far distant background. The dim outlines of barren plains, rolling hills and many mountains rise far away beyond the river’s edge.
High in the sky above the boat, just left of the center of the composition there burns a brand-new, magically created blue-white star. For the first time, it illuminates the lands of Under-earth.
“Beneath this dazzling light, the seven with eyes were the first to behold the wonders of Euthyria curving away in the distance, as if they were high atop a mountain on the surface. Before them were rolling hills and deep valleys. Mountains rose on the edges of the horizon. The land between stretched out like some unplowed Eden, waiting to be tamed. If only the light would stay one more day, and another after that, and after that, another…”
Characters:
All are armed with scabbarded swords and dressed in medieval/Middle-earth clothes. All are dazzled by this newly created magical star. They are either staring or pointing up at it, or at the lands of Under-earth stretching out before them along the horizon.
1. One wizard: ageless, appears late 50’s (young for a wizard), salt & pepper shaggy black hair, tall blue hat, open shimmering blue robes revealing armor inspired by Mongol battle dress. He stands at the prow of a stone boat with his arms and staff upraised, pointed up at the heavens, having just conjured the star. He faces the eight other occupants.
2. Two Hobbits stand directly before the wizard: one very pretty female hobbit, 22 years old, full baby-blond hair, dressed in a grey Elvin cloak with the hood thrown back. Underneath she wears a colorful riding vest and a rider’s leggings.
3. Beside her stands a large male hobbit, 22 years old, with curly brown hair and a round shield strapped to his back.
4. One very handsome black-haired crown prince of Men, 23 years old, in a grey Elvin hooded robe, and beneath he wears the silver and black of the palace guards.
5. & 6. Two identical twin male Elven princes: ageless, appear mid 20’s; with long black hair. Each carries a bow and wears a quiver full of arrows.
7. & 8. Two male Collocoll, 27 and 31 years old: they are noble native dwellers of Under-earth and have ivory skin. One has long full-bodied black hair and the other’s hair is red. They have handsome faces without eyes. Under their boots, belts and armaments they are dressed in silver skin-tight body sheaths made of scales, like the skin of a fish. The scabbards of their swords are made of colorful jewels.
9. One male Hobbit, 22 years old, half-way between the other two Hobbits in size, with dark blond hair. He stands at the back of the boat with his hands on the long stone rudder, guiding the boat through the choppy waters.
