Fantasy Novel Manga Adaptation
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
I’m curious to find out what it would take financially to turn my published fantasy novel into a serialized manga drawn in a classic, traditional Japanese art and storyboard style except for English-speaking readers (so probably left-to-right).
I would need to start with a quote to determine if I can take this on financially.
The following details were generated by the Freelancers page after I answered a few prompts:
The tone, line work, panel composition, and screen-tone choices should feel as if the pages were lifted straight from a 90’s Weekly Shōnen Jump—clean black-and-white art, expressive faces, dynamic motion lines, and hand-lettered sound effects.
What I need brought to life: the emotional growth of the two lead characters, and the magical lore that surrounds them. Those elements must stay at center stage in every chapter. Battles certainly occur, but they should serve the protagonists’ arcs rather than steal the spotlight. Backgrounds should be present and supportive—moderately detailed to ground the scenes without overwhelming the figures.
Workflow I have in mind
• We agree on a short test sequence (4–6 finished pages) to lock in character designs, lighting, and the level of background texture.
• Once approved, you move on to a 20-page pilot chapter and a rough storyboard for the next two chapters.
• Final files delivered as 600 dpi TIFFs layered for easy lettering and possible color inserts later. (EDIT: I'm not sure what to do with these files, so I'll need instructions if we get this far.)
I will supply the novel manuscript, rough scene breakdowns, and reference sheets for key props and magic sigils. You bring the pencils, inks, digital tones (Clip Studio Paint or equivalent), and your storytelling flair.
If you have samples that showcase traditional Japanese manga aesthetics—especially where character emotions and fantasy elements shine—please share them. Looking forward to collaborating and seeing my story breathe on the page.

NOTE THAT I'M JUST PUTTING OUT FEELERS JUST IN CASE THIS COULD REALLY HAPPEN
