What we have
The company host a number of webportals from a single Windows\Apache server hosted on premise.
These portals provide sanitised viewing\editing of SQL tables from an SQL server 2008 server that is on the same LAN as the webserver.
These webportals use a basic auth page to confirm access and then provide the use with a PHPgrid for viewing\editing data.
The issue
The webportals are:
Running on an out of date server OS with an out of date Apache.
Have very basic auth capabilities that could be easily compromised
Running custom PHP html files that aren’t supported as the original author is no longer contactable.
Running HTTP only
The Company has no appetite to continue providing these portals on premise due to wanting to move away from the server.
What we want
The ability to emulate the portal’s abilities in SharePoint Online, using Office365 as the ID provider.
Have this data provide real time or near real time data updates.
We assume:
There would need to be a script\agent\software running on the SQL server to provide data to Sharepoint Online,
There would be a different SharePoint online page for each ‘portal’ that can be shared to external email accounts, managed by the company employees
This will provide end to end encryption with HTTPS due to being hosted within Office365.
We are open to suggestions on other solutions beside SharePoint Online.
Instructions\documentation to allow for internal IT support to provide basic support if there are any issues.
