Not every day is a good day -- 3

This is a true family story .....it all starts back in the late 1930's pre WW2 My mum's family answers an ad in the paper for a house keeper to look after a home as well as 3 children 'where a mother has left her husband (my dad). Instead of sending my mum to cental NSW my Grandfather up roots all the children at that stage 4 children went on the trip from the Mallee in central Vic,as it was in the middle of a drought and they needed an income .The other 3 children stay in the Mallee as they have work commitments .So they pack up and rented out the farm to tenants ..... which ends in a problem of another kind (fill you in later ) So off they move to NSW .Life is tough on the farm .Eunice (my mum) accepts the job and moves in .... the grandparents and other children all get jobs on other farms. So the new life starts. My father is a real charmer and they end up getting married and have a daughter (1940). War breaks out and dad signs up and is sent to New Guinea. He comes home "absent without leave"on a number of occasions and by 1942 has another daughter so the family is growing ….. as a result my dad’s family takes the 3 elder children to give my mum a break and they are moved around the family and coming home when dad was around to help work on the farm, etc. By this time my mum sister moves in as she has work on a nearby farm ……. She gets involved with dad and the run away together and move to King Island farming (this is now after the war) and subsequently have 2 boys. Mum then moves to Mildura in Victoria to start a new life with her 2 daughters, builds a home and they have a great time there. Life is good but the sister that ran off with dad is starting to have remorse and wants to come back home. So the family decides that mum bring up the 2 boys and dad will return to living with his family. So now there is 3 children from the first marriage, who have been farmed out to relatives, 2 from mum and 2 from mum’s sister (there is a lot information in this but have left out due to the number of characters we can write). After mum gets back with dad they were share-farm farmers and move from farm to farm due to dads problem with the drink. (he nearly kills mum with an axe and burns the hay shed down also nearly wiping out the whole family. Life moves on and it is now 1960 when l was born number 8 in the line …….There are a lot of funny and terrifying parts to this story but l have tried to give you a glimpse to what l call an amazing story. Just a quick follow on is that my 2 brothers never knew they had another mum until they were in the army during the Vietnam war. When they were drafted they had different names on their birth certificate which was mum’s maiden name any way but that unravelled as you would expect.
