Celebrating 75 years of Indian Independence
1947-2022
The Champak Independence Celebration is being published to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence from the British. Children born in the millennium have a different idea of Independence. Our idea of through this book is to make them understand how they are a part of India’s independence and what were the founding father’s thinking and behaving when they fought for our independence.
The book has to be divided in 4 parts:
Part 1
The 1st part deals with the universal ideas of
Equality, Freedom, free speech, patriotism, constitution, elections and right to ne heard and free speech.
Part 2
It is dedicated primarily to the father of the nation that is Mahatama Gandhi, and how his vision shaped India’s Independence struggle. How he was non-partisan and to the best of his capacity fought a non violent and truthful movement, that even today is emulated by people all over the world. During the partition, how he wanted to be balm rather than a divisive force in India.
Part 3
It is dedicated to many other freedom fighters and shapers of Modern india whose contribution was no less to the freedom movement.
Part 4
Part 4 is all about celebrating the values of fraternity, diversity, brotherhood, festivals, and the need to take India ahead. What are the values of shared identity and values that are needed for a country as diverse as ours, and how each of us in our own way can become kinder, better, compassionate, passionate and together lead this country. How we should focus on growth, technology, education, inclusivity and celebrate together while understanding we may talk differently, look different, worship diverse Gods, but still have something that unites us- a shared love for humanity and the world that we inhabit.
Stories hold immense power in their ability to craft behaviour and teach without preaching. Through Champak’s enriching narratives children understand when to be patient, kind, forgive and apologise. They also learn to laugh at themselves and that humour is essential to life. The thoughtful stories broaden children’s perspectives and nudge them to think independently. These stories aim to create the possibilities of building a new and empowered society with them contributing to it.
This book celebrates India in 75 ways through stories, puzzles, activities, thinking and reflection, by giving children perspectives in ways that they can relate to, and reinforcing the big ideas through puzzles, thinking activities, coloring and deep reflections and repetitive exercises.
What does the Book need to achieve?
75 years of celebrating India can be a handbook for children to go to understand a lot of what the Indian Independence meant then and what it can mean now. Peppered with quotes from children, it hopes to be a gift, a must buy for children who want to understand Indian Independence and its values then and now.
The book needs to be bright, bold and thought-evoking for children. The title should make them want to explore the narrative behind each story, puzzle and activity. We want children to engage with the stories and learn and explore with them; encourage them to see the world through different perspectives.
