What Kind of Bird Can't Fly
Budget: $1,500 – $3,000 USD
I am looking to hire a freelancer interior book designer for a project titled, "What Kind of Bird Can't Fly" by Dorsey Nunn.
The inspiring personal history of a civil rights activist, this book charts Dorsey Nunn’s journey from growing up poor and criminalized in East Palo Alto, surviving San Quentin, to coming back to his community and finding meaningful work with civil rights and legal support organizations. He learns the importance of vulnerability, connection, and love to his own ability to find meaning and joy in life, and he tells a story of personal growth as he finds his way to being clean – and the slip ups that almost land him back in prison -- and then turns to help his family members and loved ones through their own crises of prison, AIDS, addiction, and so many deaths. He tells the story of how he built a professional career providing support to imprisoned men and women, and the culmination of that work in founding All Of Us Or None to empower formerly incarcerated people to band together and fight for their rights as citizens in California and the nation.
90k words (325 pp), all text excerpt for perhaps a few black and white photos
