Smartwatch Mini Text-Entry System Design

Job ID: 38770951

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

Project Title: Tiny Typing on Smartwatch – Text Entry Method Design

Project Description:

I’m looking for a talented developer or designer with experience in UI/UX design for small devices to create a text entry method optimized for a simulated smartwatch screen (1 inch by 1 inch touch area). This project involves designing and implementing a system that allows high-speed, accurate text entry for a limited character set (a-z, space). The primary requirements focus on user accuracy (95%+) and ease of use.

Key Features:

• Accuracy: Text entry must exceed a 95% accuracy rate (penalties for errors above this).
• Speed and Intuitiveness: Design for optimal speed (words per minute) and intuitiveness.
• Character Set: Only lowercase letters ‘a’ through ‘z’ and space (no caps, numbers, or punctuation).
• Space & Delete Options: Must support space entry, with a delete option recommended to manage errors.
• Creative Input Methods: Must fit within a 1x1” area (akin to the 38mm Apple Watch screen), with all touches and graphics confined within this zone.
• Non-Biased Design: The design cannot favor or predict specific phrases.

Deliverables:

1. Prototype Code & Files: Develop using the provided Processing-based scaffold code or port it to p5.js for JavaScript.
2. Short Video (up to 5 mins): Show the design process and final product with the following sections:
• Initial Ideas: Overview of brainstorming and sketches.
• First Prototype & Testing: Show prototypes, test results, and refinements.
• Second Round Prototype & Testing: Further iteration, issues observed, and benchmarking.
• Final Prototype & Testing: Showcase the final design and performance benchmarks.
3. Video Requirements: Include eight specific title frames (e.g., Initial Ideas, Final Testing). The video should demonstrate the design and testing stages, focusing on text entry usability.

Skills Required:

• UI/UX Design for Small Screens: Experience designing for very small interfaces.
• Programming in Processing/JavaScript: Ability to work with Processing-based frameworks or p5.js.
• Human-Computer Interaction Testing: Familiarity with usability testing to iterate based on user performance data.

Deadline: The final deliverable is due by Nov 24, 2024, so please ensure timely testing and iteration.

Please apply with examples of previous UI/UX or smartwatch designs, or small-screen projects if available.
