Semi-Realistic Children’s Book Illustrations
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I have written two companion picture books (Tome 1 and Tome 2) for readers aged 6-8 and now need the artwork that will bring every scene to life. The tone I am after is a warm, semi-realistic editorial style—characters that feel believable yet still playful enough to hold a child’s attention. Both stories are set in an unmistakably African context, so textures, architecture, clothing and landscapes should quietly celebrate that setting without drifting into caricature.
Across the two tomes you will create all interior spreads plus matching cover art, keeping a consistent palette and character design from book to book. Vivid colour work, expressive faces and dynamic compositions are key; background details should add cultural richness rather than clutter.
Final files must be supplied in layered, print-ready format (PSD, AI or Procreate), with CMYK versions for press and RGB for digital. I will provide the manuscripts, rough page breakdowns and any reference imagery you need as soon as we start. I must be able to edit text in final version
