WHO WE ARE:
Modern Viking is an Australian Viking-inspired product brand with 20,000+ customers. We sell handcrafted drinking horns, axes, knives, pizza cutters, mugs, gift sets and more. We are currently rebranding and creating a completely new premium brand identity system starting with our packaging cards.
This is not a one-off job. The right designer gets ongoing work across our full product range immediately.
WHAT WE NEED:
A complete premium packaging card insert system for our product boxes. All copy, specifications, card sizes, materials, colours, and brand direction are fully documented in a detailed design brief that will be sent immediately upon hiring.
The horn product bundle requires:
5 cards designed front and back plus 1 scroll wrap belly band
Card specifications from our brief:
— Size: 105mm × 148mm (A6) portrait — all cards identical size
— Corners: Rounded 4mm radius
— Two paper types: 400gsm soft-touch matte black luxury cards AND 350-400gsm textured parchment story cards
— Brand colours: Matte Black #1A1A1A, Viking Gold #D3AC33, Parchment #E8D9B0
— Print: CMYK, 3mm bleed, print ready PDF plus editable source files
The 5 cards are:
Card 1 — Ritual Card (parchment) — the emotional anchor of the unboxing, first card read after breaking the wax seal. Copy fully written and locked.
Card 2 — Thank You Card (black luxury) — community building, social sharing, review driver. Copy fully written and locked.
Card 3 — How Your Horn Was Made (parchment) — existing illustrated card that needs style refresh and reformat to portrait. Illustration stays, borders and fonts must match new system.
Card 4 — Drinking Vessel Care Card (black luxury) — existing landscape card that must be redesigned to portrait. Content stays identical.
Card 5 — QR Shield Card (parchment) — existing card that is already excellent and must NOT be changed. Reprint on correct stock only. Use this card as your primary style reference for all parchment cards.
Scroll Wrap Belly Band — 150-200gsm parchment paper band that wraps around the full card bundle. Sealed with a 30mm wax seal sticker. Design must include Modern Viking emblem and clear 35mm circular zone for wax seal placement.
THE AESTHETIC:
Look at our box. Look at our QR card design specifically. That illustrated, hand-drawn Norse style is our world. Every card must feel like a unified Viking artifact collection — ancient Norse manuscript meets luxury craft brand packaging. Think luxury whiskey gift packaging meets Viking heritage.
NOT fantasy game art. NOT cartoon Vikings. NOT clip art. NOT generic Norse symbols thrown on a dark background.
Every single card must look like it came from the same designer on the same day. Consistent borders, consistent fonts, consistent Norse knotwork corner details, consistent colour palette across the entire set.
YOU MUST HAVE:
— Strong print and packaging design experience
— Deep understanding of bleed, CMYK, print-ready file preparation
— Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Publisher
— Experience creating unified brand identity systems across multiple pieces
— The ability to read a detailed brief and execute without constant hand-holding
UNLIMITED REVISIONS ARE REQUIRED until we are completely satisfied with the result. Do not apply if this is not something you can offer.
DELIVERABLES:
— Editable source files (Adobe Illustrator AI or Affinity Publisher)
— Vector artwork AI or SVG for all cards
— Print-ready PDFs — CMYK — 3mm bleed all sides
— High resolution PNG previews for supplier reference
— Scroll wrap design file sized correctly to wrap A6 card stack
