Create a presentation in Powerpoint (or equivalent) using the information sourced for your brochure on an invasive alien species (IAS) or group of IAS that are either established, recently introduced or likely to establish. Export the presentation as a video to include a voice over presentation saved as a MP4 file (please include an insert of you at least on the first page). The presentation should be no longer than 6 minutes. It should be visually appealing and complement the brochure. Both the brochure and presentation are to target the same audience. The presentation is targeted at informed individuals that require basic and more detailed information on the IAS, its distribution, likely distribution, risk of spread, ecology, economic and ecological impact and management options (including prevention, eradication, containment, control, mitigation). The species chosen and information provided on the species in the presentation should consider how it fits into the 4th National Biodiversity Action Plan and align with a chosen County Council Biodiversity Action Plan (see https://actionforbiodiversity.ie/action-plans/). This should be a resource useful to the Heritage and Biodiversity officers in the County Councils.
Citations should be included in the slides where appropriate with a list of citations provided as the last slide. The presentation should have visual appeal, be eye catching and include images, possibly maps (use available sources like National Biodiversity Data Centre - NBDC) or illustrations (original or sourced from literature and modified) to communicate key aspects of the species and its management (e.g. species characteristics, impact, control options etc) and how it relates to the national and county biodiversity action plans.
A final slide should provide a way to contact the relevant authorities to report on the species or find more information about the species (e.g. NBDC).
Size/length: Between 5-6minutes
# Slides: typically, >10slides
Target audience: e.g. Heritage/Biodiversity officer – county council; Ranger/regional staff National Parks & Wildlife services, Inland Fisheries Ireland regional staff.
Information covered: The presentation should accompany and compliment the brochure and should cover some or all of the following aspects:
1) Species description and related species where appropriate
2) Key identification features
3) Origin & distribution (national if established or elsewhere if on horizon list or newly introduced).
4) Likely/potential distribution – include likely habitats (e.g. Fossitt)
5) General ecology of species or group
6) Economic and ecological impacts
7) Management options to include for example, eradication, containment, control, mitigation.
8) Consider management if species typically occurs with other IAS.
9) Contact to report or get further information.
