If you have a keen eye for design, experience in creating illustrative layouts, and a passion for non-fiction books, I would love to hear from you. Please provide examples of your previous work in layout design for books.
This job is to compile a book for publication with Blurb (https://www.blurb.com/). The book consists of information and graphics to be presented together with timelines, labels and captions. The text and images are ready, you will bring your expertise to create a professional graphic design scheme for the book. You will then compile the content into a file ready for publication.
The content consists of approximately 28000 words in 17 chapters (plus introduction and bibliography sections), and approximately 500 images (10% require labels, 5% require adding some grey shading, most require captions). Most images are in scalable vector file format – it is important that all images have the same line width in their final sizes (stroke scaling), and that labels and captions are in a consistent font size.
Milestones:
- Agree the layout and graphics design
- Delivery of each chapter (17 chapters, various lengths and complexities)
- I want to make sure that you complete the project so will pay a completion bonus of 30% of the total job upon delivery of the final file compatible and ready for publication via Blurb.
- Completion bonus 30% of total job
Parameters
- Page size: Trade Book 6 × 9 in / 15 × 23 cm
- Colours: Greyscale only
- Header: Diver’s Guide to Shipwrecks
- Pagination: bottom right corner
- At the end I will ask you to insert some text pages at the start (copyright, acknowledgements, introduction) and end (bibliography), and produce a table of contents ready for printing.
- It is your choice which program to use to compile the book file, but the final file needs to be compatible with Blurb publication (https://www.blurb.com/)
