InDesign Catalogue Templates with XML & Image Import (5 Layouts)
Budget: ₹600 – ₹1,500 INR
We need five reusable InDesign templates that automatically populate with book data from an XML file (including images) to create a print-ready catalogue. The templates must be fully tagged so that when a new XML is imported, all content and images reflow automatically without having to rebuild the layout.
We will provide:
Example XML file with all book data and image links (local paths).
Existing InDesign catalogue (for style and layout reference).
Linked images in a Links folder.
Deliverables:
Five separate INDD templates (or one INDD with five master spreads) that handle the following layouts:
Two-column alternating layout
Book cover on the left, text (title, subtitle, author, description, price) on the right for the first book.
Second book: cover on the right, text on the left.
Alternating pattern continues down the page.
Two books per page (mirrored)
Book 1: cover top left, text on the right (title, subtitle, author, subject, short description).
Book 2: cover top right, text on the left.
Single book per page
Cover top left, title, subtitle, author(s), subject(s), description wrapping around the cover and continuing down the page.
Customer-provided layout
Left page: cover top left, title, subtitle, author, description.
Right page: space for additional images (linked from XML or placed manually).
Styling should match the provided customer example template.
Excel-style list view
Table or multi-column layout with columns for: Title, Format, ISBN13, Price.
Rows flow automatically from XML data.
Technical Requirements:
All relevant content elements (title, subtitle, author, description, price, ISBN, image) must be XML-tagged in the InDesign Structure panel.
The template must map XML tags to paragraph/object styles so formatting applies automatically when importing XML.
Images must be placed from local paths (relative to Links folder) so they relink automatically.
On re-import of a new XML file, the layout must update/reflow without losing formatting or breaking structure.
Paragraph and object styles should be cleanly set up (Book Title, Subtitle, Author, Description, Price, etc.) and labeled logically.
Master pages should be set up where applicable for quick duplication.
What We Expect from You:
Create the 5 templates in Adobe InDesign (latest CC version or IDML for backward compatibility).
Set up and test XML import with the provided sample file.
Provide a short README explaining:
How to import a new XML file into each template.
How to update/relink images.
Any special notes for reflowing content.
Deliver final INDD files + packaged assets (or IDML if needed).
Ideal Freelancer:
Proven experience creating XML-integrated InDesign templates.
Able to work with paragraph/object styles, tagged frames, and XML Structure panel.
Can troubleshoot XML import issues and set up layouts that reflow cleanly.
Portfolio with similar XML → InDesign automation projects is a plus.
Timeline:
First template (two-column alternating) is ready for review within a few hours of hiring.
Remaining templates delivered shortly after approval of the first.
