Cover for a play I wrote
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
A drawing of a gang called “Manilows.” The gang is named after Barry Manilow. Five men in a bar wearing leather jackets, jeans and a white t-shirt. The leather jackets will have pictures of Barry Manilow from album covers on the back of the jackets with the word, Manilows above the picture and the white t-shirts will have a matching Barry Manilow. Each person will have a different Manilow picture. They will be in a bar that has Barry Manilow posters and album covers and other Barry Manilow Paraphernalia. There will be a piano and the head of the gang who looks like Barry Manilow will be playing piano. The other guys will be hanging out. There’s a jukebox. Think Grease meets the Warriors. Tough looking guys. (The pictures on the jackets, and t-shirts will be young versions of Barry Manilow.)
This is the synopsis of the play I wrote:
It’s The Warriors, and Grease meets Pitch Perfect, and Rock of Ages in this Jukebox musical filled with hit love songs and other hit songs, primarily from the seventies and eighties with an emphasis on the hits of Barry Manilow. A love story between various characters named in Barry Manilow songs, which includes all of the stages and emotional highs and lows of love and takes place amidst a Viral Musical Apocalypse. The only survivors are thought to be Tribute Band Gangs named after solo-artists from the seventies and eighties such as, The Manilows, The Madonnas, The Fogelbergs, The Benatars, The Taylor Danes, and many, many, more.
The Critics blame The Manilows for releasing the virus that causes the Musical Apocalypse because The Manilows are upset that Barry Manilow is not in the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame. While The Manilows are on tour, the Critics, with the help of Tribute Arena Band Gangs, who it turns out also survived the Viral Musical Apocalypse, take over the Copacabana. The Manilows have to journey 26 miles on foot to reach the Copa, and along the way they must battle numerous solo-artist named Tribute Band Gangs trying to stop them. Upon reaching the Copa, The Manilows must battle the Critics and the Tribute Arena Band Gangs to reclaim control of the Copa and to bring Tribute Band Gangs of all musical genres together, to sing in one harmonious voice.
