Government RFP Specialist (Nonprofit Communications)

Shared Value Media (SVM) is a communications firm specializing in coalition-led outreach for socially impactful programs and community-led projects. From NY to CA, we work hand-in-hand with trusted organizations to move beyond impressions and drive measurable change.
SVM is seeking a freelance writer to support new business development efforts, primarily but not exclusively for public sector projects at the state and municipal levels. Some examples of recent SVM projects include: a citywide public awareness campaign to encourage employee ownership; a statewide outreach effort to reach essential workers with workplace health and safety information; and a statewide outreach effort to educate homeowners on a federal mortgage relief program.
The freelance writer will, after an initial onboarding period, be the primary author on new bid proposals, informed in part by an existing library of content and the expertise of the broader SVM team. The bulk of current new business efforts focuses on California and New York state projects, but the geographic scope may expand in the coming months.
Successful candidates will have, at minimum:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
The ability to synthesize large quantities of information
Two or more years’ experience in nonprofit or higher education grant-writing or RFP response development for government contracts
Demonstrated success securing public sector or foundation funding, particularly for projects with multiple stakeholders and with community engagement components
An aptitude for independently managing concurrent proposals
A BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university
We particularly invite candidates familiar with public sector bid processes.
This is a remote, part-time freelance position. Hours may vary depending on RFP volume and deadlines. However, we anticipate this position will require a minimum of 40 hours/month for the first 6 months. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
