Proximity Chat Android App
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
I need an Android application that quietly watches each user’s GPS location in the background and, when two users move within a configurable radius, delivers a private push notification to both of them. The notification must simply tell them that someone nearby is open to connect; no personal data or exact position is shown.
Inside the alert the user taps “Connect” (or ignores it). If both parties accept, the app instantly opens a one-to-one, text-only chat room. No images, voice notes, or group threads are required—just fast, reliable text messaging. I have no interest in automatic pairing or forcing connections; the decision must always stay in the users’ hands.
Everything has to be end-to-end encrypted and any location data should stay on the device until a notification is triggered, then discarded. A lightweight, cost-effective backend (Firebase Realtime Database or Firestore, Firebase Cloud Messaging, or a similarly secure alternative) is fine as long as it keeps messages synced and delivers push notifications reliably. I will consider the project complete when:
• Two phones running the app detect each other via GPS within the chosen range and receive a notification in under 10 seconds.
• Both users can tap “Connect” to enter a secure text chat, exchange messages, and see them persist after app restart.
• Turning off discovery or logging out stops all location tracking immediately.
