SketchUp to SolidWorks Parts Conversion
Budget: $3 – $10 NZD
I have a series of individual SketchUp part models that need to be accurately redrawn as clean, fully parametric SolidWorks parts.
These SketchUp models represent manufactured components (primarily fabricated metal parts), and the goal is to produce proper SolidWorks-native models, not simple file conversions.
Accuracy, clean modelling practice, and correct handling of curves and folds are critical.
Scope of Work
For each part, the freelancer will:
- Open and review the SketchUp model
- Use the model to extract:
- Overall geometry
- Dimensions
- Profiles
- Hole locations
- Fold geometry (if applicable)
- Curved surfaces
Recreate the part in SolidWorks
- Model the part from scratch in SolidWorks
- Create fully defined, parametric models
- Use correct SolidWorks features such as:
- Extrudes
- Cuts
- Sheet metal features (where appropriate)
- Fillets
- Folds
- Patterns
- Correct all curved geometry
Any faceted curves from SketchUp must be recreated as true curves
Cylinders, arcs, and bends must be:
- Smooth
- Dimensionally accurate
- Fully defined
Ensure model quality
Models must:
- Be clean and manufacturable
- Contain no broken geometry
- Contain no imported mesh bodies
- Use logical feature trees
- Be easy to edit later
Required Deliverables
For each part, provide:
1. SolidWorks Part File (.SLDPRT)
2. Neutral CAD File (.step or .stp) - Clean export suitable for manufacturing or sharing
3. 2D Drawing File (.DWG)
4. PDF Drawing (One page per part). Must include:
3D isometric view
- Orthographic views (Front, Top, Side)
- All key dimensions
- Hole sizes
- Bend details (if applicable)
Important Technical Requirements
- Do not import and convert SketchUp geometry directly
- Parts must be properly rebuilt in SolidWorks
- All curves must be:
- True arcs or splines
- Not faceted surfaces
- Maintain dimensional accuracy from the SketchUp models
- Use correct modelling methods (especially for sheet metal parts)
